Depending on the material and attachment method, custom patches work best on specific fabrics. Generally, embroidered and chenille patches with iron-on backing work well on heat-resistant woven fabrics like cotton or denim. PVC patches can adhere to a broader range of materials but always check compatibility. Sublimated patches require heat-resistant fabrics like cotton or canvas. Leather patches can be sewn onto most fabrics but might be too stiff for delicate materials.

Transforming clothes and accessories with custom patches is a breeze with three main attachment methods.

For heat-resistant fabrics like cotton or denim, ironing offers a quick solution. Preheat your iron to the recommended setting, grab a pressing cloth (optional), and position your patch. Apply firm pressure for the recommended time (15-30 seconds) and let it cool completely. Test the edges for a secure hold and re-iron if needed.

If you prefer more flexibility or have a delicate fabric or non-ironable patch material, sewing is the way to go. Grab your needle, the thread that matches your patch or garment, and scissors. Position the patch, secure it with pins, and sew it on using a simple stitch.

Finally, consider velcro backing for a removable, reusable option, especially with PVC patches. Some patches might come with pre-attached velcro, but you can also sew separate velcro strips (loop and hook sides) onto the patch and your garment for easy attachment and detachment.

We have a setup fee for custom patch orders to cover the initial preparation of your unique design. This includes digitizing your artwork for our machines, making any necessary adjustments to our equipment for your specific patch type, and creating a sample patch to ensure top quality.

Keeping your custom patches looking great is simple! Wash the garment with the patch following the care instructions (usually cold water, gentle cycle, inside out). Skip high heat drying and avoid ironing directly on the patch.

For specifics, embroidered and chenille patches can handle gentle washing but avoid snagging the threads. PVC patches are tough and can be wiped clean. Sublimated patches prefer minimal washing with cold water and air drying.

Leather patches age beautifully, so avoid soaking and use a conditioner occasionally. For any patch, spot clean with a mild detergent and air dry. Store clothes with patches in a cool, dry place, and reattach any loose iron-on patches or mend loose threads on sewn patches.
